Every year our friends at the Chicago Reader curate a list of the Best of everything in the city—from burgers to brewpubs, pet groomers to politicos, record stores to radio stations. The resulting winners are crowned the Best of Chicago and live on in infamy for a full year on the Reader's Best of Chicago online resource guide. Help CHIRP claim the title of Best Overall Radio Station by voting before midnight, May 22 (that's this Wednesday, for the calendar disinclined). You'll find our category in the 6th section of the ballot, "Civic Life," 6th entry from the bottom of the page. Vote CHIRP Radio as the Best Overall Radio Station in Chicago and prove that independent radio rocks!
There's no better way to easy back into the work week than drowning one's sorrows in Dehli Coolers and local music. Thank goodness for CHIRP Night at the Whistler, where CHIRP brings emerging and local bands to the Whistler's stage the second Monday of every month. Last Monday saw folk rockers Henry Joseph and indie-pop purveyors Panoramic & True entertain the crowd under the red lights of the Whistler's intimate stage. Check out some photos from the show, and clear your schedule for the next Whistler night on Monday, June 10.

What do Yes, King Crimson, Roy Harper, Savoy Brown and Genesis have in common? They all have, to varying degrees, employed Bill Bruford on drums, which is always a great decision. From the three gigs he played with Savoy Brown in 1968 to his three separate tours of duty with King Crimson, Bruford has brought the skills of a great jazz drummer and rock power to some of the most challenging rock music of the past four decades. While Bruford made his reputation as one of the great prog rock sidemen, he also lead his own projects, like Earthworks, constantly exploring and challenging himself as an instrumentalist. He never drew attention to himself, which might be why he was so effective in so many bands. Let’s pay tribute to Mr. Bruford by grabbing your iPod or MP3 player, hitting shuffle and sharing the first 10 songs that come up.
