Erin Van Ness writesJoin the Chicago Human Rhythm Project and CHIRP Radio this Thanksgiving weekend!

CHIRP Radio is proud to partner with the Chicago Human Rhythm Project for this year’s Thanks4Giving program. This year’s event features Global Rhythms, the first concert series in the United States dedicated to American tap and contemporary percussive arts companies. It’s all happening at the Harris Theatre, November 26 and 27.

So take a break from the turkey and Aunt Edna’s new jello mold and come enjoy the talents of dance groups from around the world, like Step Afrika, Ensemble Espanol, and The Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago featuring the Grammy-nominated Sones de Mexico.

Shawn Campbell writesHaving a Blast at the CHIRP Record Crawl

We’ve had a great day at the CHIRP Record Crawl! The weather is gorgeous, and the deals are outstanding! Shoppers turned out to pick up their badges at Atomix, and headed right over to Permanent Records. Next stops were Dusty Groove and Favorite Records.

A stop at Quencher’s for refreshment energized shoppers for the second half of the day. Next up, saki, Logan Hardware, and finally, northward to Laurie’s Planet of Sound.

Thanks so much to all the stores and all the shoppers who’ve been participating!

Mike Bennett writesFriday iPod/MP3 Shuffle—Happy Birthday Andy Partridge Edition

When XTC burst on the scene with the frenetic herky-jerky post-punk pop of “Science Friction”, little did the world know that the band’s manic frontman would turn out to be one of the greatest songwriters of his generation. Swindon, England native Andy Partridge brought a hyperactive intelligence and innate melodic and compositional skills to bear on a series of good and great albums, with XTC evolving throughout, going from new wave stars to orch-pop kings over the course of twentysomething years. Partridge seems to be having a crisis of confidence, admitting he has songs but not up to the task of committing them to a fixed product. This is a shame, but I certainly understand the weight of his legacy, as XTC is a band who can be said in the same breath as the many great ’60s bands and artists who inspired them (from Captain Beefheart to The Beatles to Judee Sill) and the comparison is clearly merited. Let’s pay tribute to Andy on his birthday by grabbing your iPod or MP3 player, hitting shuffle, and sharing the first 10 songs that come up.
