Jeremy Peruski writesMusic in Pictures: Dan Deacon at Lincoln Hall (11/7/12)

CHIRP welcomed Dan Deacon (and his band) to a packed show at Lincoln Hall last week the day after the Presidential elections. If you've never experienced a Dan Deacon show then you must know that their set is filled with energy, audience participation and political commentary. The audience participation started out small by simply urging the audience to point up toward the light or place their hand on their neighbor’s head. This swiftly escalated into a full-on dance party in the middle off the floor where Dan personally picked out people from the crowd to shake what their momma gave ‘em.

Here at CHIRP, we want to make sure to provide you with the best listening experience possible. Which is why we’d like to find out more about you. We’re proud to announce our listener survey , which will help us learn about how, when and why you listen to CHIRP Radio.

You may be asking yourself, “With a potential of winning a $100 Visa Gift Card, there’s gotta be like 50 questions on this survey, right?” The answer is no! This is a quick 20 question survey, which shouldn’t take you more than 10 minutes to complete. It was quite a challenge to masterfully craft such a short, yet effective survey. But atCHIRP Radio, we are professionals.

So click here to take the survey. Make sure to enter your email address at the bottom of the form to be entered to win the $100 Visa Gift Card. The survey will run through the end of 2012, and we’ll notify the winner soon after.

CHIRP welcomes Henry Rollins for the first of three spoken-word performances at the Old Town School of Folk Music on Thursday, November 15th. Rollins’ “Long March” speaking tour is in support of a new book of photography and writing, Occupants, and he will also cover his recent travels to North Korea, Mongolia, Bhutan, Vietnam, India, Tibet, Sudan, Uganda, Haiti and Cuba. All shows begin at 8 PM. Visit oldtownschool.org for more info.

Mike Bennett writesFriday iPod/MP3 Shuffle—Happy Birthday Phil May Edition

The Pretty Things were formed by Phil May and Dick Taylor after the latter left The Rolling Stones. The Pretties started off as the sleazier alternative to the Stones, playing hard R & B laced rock ‘n’ roll, with great songs such as “Rosalyn” and “L.S.D.”. Like many ’60s bands, The Pretty Things gravitated towards psychedelia and experimentation and May really spearheaded those efforts, culminating in a classic rock opera. S.F. Sorrow, which was recorded before The Who’s Tommy. That didn’t hit and the Pretties settled into more of a blues rock groove. May has been the constant, and when I got to see them at The House of Blues, they didn’t disappoint. Let’s pay tribute to this underrated British rocker, by grabbing your iPod or MP3 player, hitting shuffle, and sharing the first 10 songs that come up.
