Karin Fjellman writesTonight! CHIRP Night at the Whistler with Male and Colorlist

It’s the third Monday of the month, and that means CHIRP and the Whistler have concocted a great set of music and cocktails for you this fine evening! Tonight’s lineup stars Male and Colorlist, as well as the DJ skills of CHIRP’s own Michael Flavor. Oh, and did we mention that we’ll be raffling off passes to Pitchfork Festival? No, sir or ma’am, that ain’t a typo. It’s a total steal, if you consider that there’s no cover to get in! See you there.

Clarence Ewing: The Million Year Trip writesThis Week with CHIRP Radio (Week of June 20, 2011)

  • Monday, June 20

Head to the Whistler to see Male and Colorist weave their special webs of creative electro-noise-jazz. We’re not sure what that means, but it translates into a delicious improv-based soundscape best enjoyed with one of the Whistler’s esteemed cocktails. A percentage of bar sales benefits CHIRP Radio (as if you needed another reason), and there will be a raffle with prizes so you could win win win! Plus a few of our own CHIRP DJs will be making a special appearance to spin between sets.

Clarence Ewing: The Million Year Trip writesRediscovering Our Record Collections: Morphine’s “Cure for Pain”

During my brief time living in Boston, I wasn’t nearly as big a Rock music fan as I am now. In college, my exposure to music was still pretty much limited to what I picked up from school marching band, the a-cappella group I sang in, and Top 40 radio (which, compared to today’s offerings, I now realize wasn’t all that bad).

The Reading List is a collection of interesting, important, and thought-provoking articles about music from around the Web. Click here to suggest an article.

  • R.I.P. Gil Scott-Heron.
  • Music is not immune from the effects political unrest in the world. Protesters in Morocco are not happy with a music festival they see as just another tool for The Man.
  • A seemingly-irrelevant spat between Moby and Brittney Spears brings up a far more interesting question: what is music, anyway?
  • It’s catchy, people respond to it, and it moves product. Ice cream truck music gets the job done.
  • The Chicago Reader has been asking various music people what they’re currently listening to. Find out what CHIRP’s founder and President Shawn Campbell recommends.
