Artist Interviews Fort Frances

Local band Fort Frances sits down with CHIRP DJ Julie Mueller in their West Loop rehearsal space for a light-hearted discussion on how they describe their sound, what the label "pop music" means to the band and the important contribution of Jeff's "bass face" to the group. Things turn philosophical in regards to how listeners currently digest music and how the band would be "f*#&cked" without a desire to make "popular music."

Fort Frances is currently in Maine finishing their upcoming record. You can catch Fort Frances at Lincoln Hall on December 12.

First Time First Impression - Pamela Maurer aka Baby Money

Contains explicit language

This is a story by singer-songwriter Pamela Maurer formerly of Poor Elvis. While her background is in theatre and art, her craft these days is performing music under the nom de plume Baby Money. This May, she released her first album of original songs, In Memory of John Doe, which was greatly inspired by 1960s girl groups, soul, old time revival, gospel, and traditional rhythm ‘n’ blues. The album has been in regular rotation in the CHIRP library. This story is about Pamela’s first impression of Pittsburgh and how it allowed her to embrace her inner weirdo.

Be sure to check out our next performance of The First Time reading series, First Fight, on October 15 at Martyrs'.

Artist Interviews The Growlers

Brooks Nielsen, lead singer of The Growlers, took a moment to chill with CHIRP's Dylan Peterson before the band's sold out show at Lincoln Hall. With Brooks' dog running free in the little park across the street from the venue, they sat on a bench and talked about dogs and the pack life, breaking bones on European tours, The Lemons and Burger Records and Cassette Store Day.
The Growlers latest album, Chinese Fountain, is out 9/23 on Everloving Records.
