It's pretty rare for a bunch of teenagers to make grown adults feel lame and unaccomplished. But leave it to The Orwells to do just that. Haling from the suburb of Elmhurst, this quintet literally just graduated from high school, but have done more in the Chicago music scene than plenty of other local bands, all before they could legally buy their own cigarettes.
Although they often have problems booking gigs at places that only do 21+ shows (and even some problems with 18+), they've managed to create a lot of buzz, with a fast-paced, Black Lips-esque single "Mallrats (La La La)" that is certainly worth a listen. Their LP Remember When came out in August on Autumn Tone, and they're even making an appearance at SXSW this year. Pretty impressive resume for five guys that just took off their graduation caps.
They'll be at the Beat Kitchen on Saturday, March 23 to wrap up their first U.S. tour with Twin Peaks and The Funs. The show is all ages, and doors are at 7:30; come hang out with CHIRP and get your dance on.
