CHIRP Radio's Katie Owens met up with P. Michael, Travis and Rebecca of Chicago band ONO at The Ribcage for an exclusive pre-show interview. ONO talked about why it ended its 26-year hiatus from recording in 2012, the requisite of integrating community and ultimately chaos into the band's sound, and its recollection of Chicago's 1980's punk scene.
ONO released Diegesis on Monikor Records on March 11, 2014. ONO play the Empty Bottle this Wednesday, July 9.

This is a story by playwright Barrie Cole, for our show First Move. Her latest play, "Elevator Tours," which had its premiere in January of this year, was called an "unmitigated triumph of perversity" by Tony Adler of the Chicago Reader. Active in Chicago’s live lit community, Barrie has read and performed her work at Story Sessions, Essay Fiesta, Write Club, Guts and Glory, Fillet of Solo, That's All She Wrote, Looking for Love, and others. She is also working on a forthcoming short story collection.

For that segment of Nerd Culture which longed for the day when Hollywood studios would pump out an endless stream of big-budget superhero flicks... that day has arrived. And once again, the story is "Be careful what you wish for." When a certain genre of film is successful, moviegoers will be treated to more of them -- but when they're wildly successful, studios can hardly be bothered to release anything else.
Is Hollywood's raging emphasis on action franchises, reboots, and remakes stifling cinema creativity? What's the solution from the angle of the cinephile? My guest is pop-culture critic Leonard Pierce, whose work has been featured in numerous magazines, and whose writing can be found at leonardpierce.com.
