Artist Interviews Trey Elder Interview

Trey Elder is the mastermind behind Quiet Pterodactyl, a nonprofit dedicated to Chicago’s art and music communities that aims to create experiences, enjoyment, and entry into the arts. To help offset the financial pains venues are experiencing due to indefinite closure during the pandemic, Quiet Pterodactyl has released situationchicago, a double LP featuring 25 local (or initially local) bands benefiting 25 local venues.

Features Co-Director Jessi D spoke with Trey about the process of organizing such an undertaking in this week's podcast.

Artist Interviews Oozing Wound Interview

This week for the CHIRP Radio Podcast, Features Co-director Mick R spoke with Zack and Kevin of the Chicago-based thrash and sludge metal band, Oozing Wound. Due to the limitations of COVID they had to speak with both the guys separately, but the conversation doesn't suffer for this fact. The interview covers a lot of ground, discussing topics as varied as keeping the music scene safe, struggles with unemployment, anxiety around reopening during the pandemic, writing new material, the advantages of working for an employee-owned company and performing music in the post-apocalypse. Zack even provides some behind the scenes details about the making of their fantastic new video for the song "Surrounded by F'ing Idiots," co-created and starring comedian Sarah Squirm. It's a wild ride!

Oozing Wound's last album, High Anxiety, came out in 2019 on Thrill Jockey and is available on BandCamp.

Artist Interviews Half Gringa Interview

Artist Interviews Arriver Interview

This week for the CHIRP Radio podcast Features Co-Director Mick R spoke with Dan Sullivan of the Chicago-based progressive death metal band Arriver. Dan was kind enough to chat with us about running a business in the era of COVID, reviving the sounds of an obscure psychedelic rock band, how history influences his band's music, and what makes Chicago's metal scene so unique.
