Chicago band Beh'Ouai ("bay-way") is performing at CHIRP Night at the Whistler on Tuesday, June 6th. We caught up with the band to find out more about them and their music…

A quick intro of yourselves?
Hello, we are Laure Elie & Krame from the band Beh'Ouai.

So...What’s going on? Tell us about your current releases and/or upcoming shows (such as CHIRP Night at the Whistler!).
Lots! We are currently recording and bringing our live set to the people, including playing CHIRP Night at the Whistler June 6, before we move to France at the end of July.

How do you go about turning your thoughts, ideas, and feelings into sounds?
Staring into the void, then screaming into the void, then dancing into the void.

If your music was a kind of beer, ice cream, or coffee (take your pick), what would it taste like?
Cafe du Monde

Do you have any unexpected influences? Are any other artists or bands catching your attention at the moment?
We draw inspiration from all aspects of life. We have two cats and keep a bird feeder on our balcony to connect with nature. Currently we like to listen to Nina Simone, Les Rita Mitsouko, La Femme, Holger Czukay, Vanishing Twin, Jean-Bosco Mwende, Tricky, Sunburned Hand of the Man, Clickbait, Miniskirt, No Joy, Glyders, to name a few.

If you couldn’t make music, what would you be doing right now?
Making movies.

What is it about Chicago that pleases you?
Chicago is a great place for weird creative types to do weird creative things and has lots of amazing food, even for picky eaters.

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever done in a basement?
We are currently recording what may turn out to be our debut album in the basement, so let's go with that!

Do you take vacations? What’s your perfect trip?
Visiting family and friends, having adventures, eating yummy foods.

If you were someone’s life coach, what are the top 2 life lessons you’d teach them?
Run naked with a feather in your butt, and don't be afraid of being ridiculous.

Are there any stories or anecdotes you want to share but haven’t been asked the right question to do so? Or do you have anything you’d like to declare to the world? Feel free to share…

We love Chicago and will miss everyone, and we're proud to play for CHIRP. Beh'Ouai comes from deep in our heart and we love that we get to share it with friends and strangers alike. We started to play with Jesse and Billy last summer and are amazed by what we've accomplished in one year. We look forward to bringing our friend-bands to come play with us in Europe. Thank you!

CHIRP Night at the Whistler takes place on the 1st Tuesday of the month. Enjoy great music, signature cocktails, and knowing you are supporting independent community radio. Bret Koontz & Truancy Club will also perform on June 6th. There is no cover for this 21+ show.
