Obviously 2020 is going down as one of the strangest years of my life. I spent many days in my home, questioning if I had slipped into an episode of the Twilight Zone, or was still apart of some strange dream. To pass the time, I rewatched all of Star Trek: The Next Generation, pretended that my home was a cruise ship, and revisited my entire record collection - listening to every record that I own alphabetically (Currently, I am in letter P!). However, I had a rule: If the album was released in 2020, it could be listened to at any time (what a way to break-up all those Bowie & The National records!). Here’s what I spent 2020 listening to:

What a year - the many complications of 2020 made for a year where I needed some kind of fun. That arrived in the many dance and electronic albums released this year that kept me going. Many of those are highlighted in this top ten list.
It has been a joy to provide music on Monday mornings during this difficult time. It is my hope that CHIRP has brought you some moments of calm during the storm that was 2020. In addition, thank you so much to our donors that gave so much to keep us going. It is appreciated and we are grateful.

I don’t think I’ve done one of these for CHIRP before, but things change. Having the ability to go and do a radio show every week in the midst of all this walking delirium and uncertainty has been one of the most rewarding experiences in this godforsaken year.
So much music passed my way this year, and I feel fortunate to have been able to mix it all for you on the show. Listen and feel; totemic sounds will outlast this era and feed the beyond.
If you’re new to Heathen Disco, welcome. It’s the burnt ends of CHIRP programming, Sunday nights 9-midnight, mostly made from the records I bring in each week and the new stuff that sustains both me and the station/our DJs alike. Archives are here.

What a messed up year. There was a period between March and June when I could barely listen to music at all. When I had the capacity to enjoy listening again, I had a lot of catching up to do.
I don't know that these are the best albums of 2020, but these are the ones I listened to the most, played the most on my show, and was most happy to see when they were released. There's so much great music from 2020. I'm sure I'll be discovering even more as we move into 2021.
