Bad Witchers Zoey Wagner, Elma Husetovic, and Archie Budzar joined Jessi D in the CHIRP studios to talk about their upcoming project – FEMIfest, a DIY music and arts fest featuring national and Chicago talent, in it’s 5th year. They talk about the fest, how they are actively trying to shift the DIY scene in Chicago, and making events accessible to everyone.

Artist Interviews Toupee

Nestled in their Pilsen apartment, CHIRP's Eddie Sayago met up with roommates and four-piece, Toupee. Toupee underscored how trust impacts its musicality, declared their nocturnal & impulsive tendencies, and reflected on cataloging life's experiences in their timeline of injuries.

Toupee released its sophomore LP, Leg Toucher, on Moniker Records, on July 7. Toupee will be on tour in the NE and will be back in the great Midwest on August 4 for a show at the The Bishop in Bloomington, IN.

Artist Interviews Hologram Kizzie

Chicago Hip-hop artist, Hologram Kizzie aka Psalm One met up with Katie Owens before her set at Hideout's annual SXSW sendoff show on the first sunny spring day of the season. Hologram Kizzie spoke about her alternative path which made her a natural role model to Chicago youths and the LGBT community, she also mused about the inherent barriers to women in rap and the importance of overcoming them.

Artist Interviews Sinkane

Before his headlining show as Schubas, Ahmed Gallab, best known as DFA Records' Sinkane, talked to CHIRP's Jessi D about the therapeutic process that was making his 2014 album, Mean Love. A former collaborator with Yeasayer, Caribou and Of Montreal, Gallab's music combines funk, jazz, country, and rock into a powerfully soulful style that is distinctly his own.

Sinkane will return to Schubas next month to play a special New Year's Eve show with support from the Numero Group DJs.

Artist Interviews Girl Group Chicago

Shana East, Megan Kasten, Carrie Shemanski, and Kate Walsh of Girl Group Chicago met with CHIRP DJ Jessi D at the bands' headquarters/Shana's living space in Avondale. They all tried really hard not to laugh through the whole interview, and discussed reclaiming and reinterpreting 1960's hits with a modern feminist perspective, cultivating a social support system focusing on empowering women and the community formed as a result of their 20+ member, all-girl band.
