Darning Woman by Anastasia Coope (Jagjaguwar) |
Souvenir by Omni (Sub Pop) |
Big Ideas by Remi Wolf (Self-Released/licensed to Island Records)Amidst the exuberant enjoyable ear candy of Sabrina Carpenter, Beyonce, Chappell Roan and Charli XCX, this one went a bit under the radar but is just as good as those others and brings in some more diverse influences and sounds from the indie and dance landscape. Check the Empty Bottle meet cute/missed connections story in “Cherries & Cream”. |
This is How Tomorrow Moves by beabadoobee (Dirty Hit)By far my favorite album cover of the year. There’s so much movement, emotion and expression in just that simple photo. |
SLIFT by ILION (Le Bosquet/Sub Pop) |
American Patchwork Quartet by American Patchwork Quartet (Carolina Jasmine Inc)This album stands in such contrast to the divisions in American people and culture by which this year ended up being defined — it’s a true and honest combination of influences, cultures and sounds that use American folk songs as a vehicle. I keep coming back to Falguni Shah’s excellent singing and vocalizing, especially on “Beneath the Willows” to be transported but also grounded. |
Harm’s Way by Ducks Ltd (Carpark Records) |
At Your Leisure by Clickbait (Bric-a-Brac Records) |
BUTU by KOKOKO! (Self released under license to Transgressive Records) |
Here in the Pitch by Jessica Pratt (Mexican Summer) |
