Erik Roldan writesCHIRP + Coach House Sounds Present: Village

Village is a Chicago-based, four piece rock band with earthy edges. Their music puts guitars in front, backed by vocals that remind me of Material Issue’s Jim Ellison. CHIRP is very happy to co-present their Coach House Sounds Session, available for stream at coachhousesounds.com starting Tuesday, December 13th!

What the dumbest thing you’ve ever done in a basement?

I tracked/demo’d the Local Moves’ album in my girlfriends old basement apartment. Not sure if that classifies as dumb though. I try to avoid dumb situations.

Describe a scenario where Village could be someone’s life coach and the top 2 life lessons you’d teach them.

We’re more of the player types still, won’t be coaching until later in the career. But I’d say would be individual could start with 1. turn off the tv. 2. turn on his/her’s mind.

Tell me about your CHS session—what did you like about it? Was there anything that surprised you or was spontaneous that came out in the recording?

I like Matt, he’s a great guy, very chill. good vibes. They have a cool set up in a familiar setting below ground. We we’re sort of “day tripping” that afternoon and rolled over there feeling pretty good. It was real hot out so the amps we’re nice and swampy and we we’re feeling loose. I bought a 12 pack of Tecate and we started riffin’. CH’s staff of highly trained technical engineers proceeded to dial us in and you know, the rest is history.

What’s happening? What are your current/upcoming shows or releases?

Village will be playing at the Empty Bottle on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. It’s free with rsvp@emptybottle.com just put VILLAGE in the subject line. Charming People and Strychnine open the show.
