This June’s event features the high-energy garage rock of Laverne and the cerebral electro-dance-pop of Anti/Beyond. The worldwide event Classic Album Sundays has grown into a worldwide destination for those who wish to gather together to listen to and discuss the some of the greatest music ever made.

It's once again time to appreciate an audio work of art. This month's focus is on former Fugees member Lauryn Hill, whose 1998 album The Midseducation of Lauryn Hill has become a critical and commerical classic. (Read Sam Willet's excellent retrospective on the artist and the album.)

The Chicago branch of CAS will gather again at Saturday Audio Exchange (1021 W Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60657) this Sunday, April 30th, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm to spin the record on super hi-fi equipment. The evening's schedule of events is as follows:

5:30pm-6:30pm: Sam will play a musical leadup playlist of artists that inspired or have been inspired by Ms. Lauryn Hill, including Erykah Badu, Aaliyah, D'Angleo, Bob Marley, and Wu-Tang Clan. Free lemonade and Dark Matter Coffee coffee is available to attendees (it's also BYOB).

6:35 pm: Sam gives a brief presentation on The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, detailing its recording process and lyrical content, detailing its recording process and lyrical content.

6:45 pm: The needle drops on The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

Special guests Kathleen Rooney and Eric Plattner of Poems While You Wait will also be in attendance, writing poems for everyone at CAS!

Susan writesCHIRP Radio Welcomes Loudon Wainwright III To The Old Town School of Folk Music

Loudon Wainwright III will be performing Surviving Twin at the Old Town School of Folk Music on the 1st and 2nd of April. He is a humorist, singer, songwriter, and actor.

Surviving Twin is a song and storytelling show inspired by Wainwright’s review of his father’s LIFE magazine columns and wartime letters. His posthumous relationship with his father started when he got to laughing while reading the column his father wrote about their family dog. Wainwright wrote he and his “… long gone old man…are getting along better than we ever have.” 

A visit to his homepage Lw3.com includes a link to a video of a song he wrote before the last presidential election had come to its conclusion. "I Had a Dream" is a song about what it might be like if Trump were to become president.

“Locked up the opposition and the demonstrators too
“That would be me and it might be you”

Humor is also integral to the song Man & Dog which includes:

“When a man has a dog in the city
a man has to carry him a plastic bag on his person at all times”
