Throughout December, CHIRP Radio presents its volunteers’ top albums of 2018. Our first list for this year is from DJ Jack Ryan. Like most years in this decade, 2018 was kind of a mixed bag. Some good stuff happened, some bad stuff happened. Famous people that we looked up to died. People who we thought were decent people turned out to be class A Scumbags. Throw in over a dozen mass shootings, a smidgen of terrorism, refugees fleeing destruction in their home country for a better life in the United States/Canada/Europe and [insert corrupt, borderline fascist, fear-mongering politicians name here] consistently made an effort to blur the lines between evil and stupidity. Even though it's far easier and takes less effort to get mired in the misery of it all, I'm choosing to take Monty Python's advice to look on the bright side of life and remind myself that every year, some really talented bands, singers and rappers come out with some rocking good records, and 2018 was no exception. Here's my top 10 of the year. |
Throughout December, CHIRP Radio presents its volunteers’ top albums of 2017. Here are CHIRP Radio’s Top Ten Albums of 2017! As several of our volunteers have said in their lists, it's been a year. And it's been a historic year for CHIRP Radio, as we took to the broadcast airwaves for the first time at 107.1 FM. Thanks to the support of our fantastic listeners, we plan to keep rocking into 2018 and beyond. In the meantime, here are the albums that were cited the most by our volunteers as their favorites of the year. The #1 spot goes to an artist making her debut album after 5 years of singles. All 10 records are fantastic. As usual, no matter what else is going on, it was a great year for music. Happy New Year! |
Throughout December, CHIRP Radio presents its volunteers’ top albums of 2017. Our next list is from Founder, General Manager, and DJ (Saturday 12-2pm) Shawn Campbell. 2017 was a year. Rather than dwell on the darker parts, though, I want to celebrate the great music that came out as we finally achieved the founding dream of the organization and launched our broadcast at 107.1FM. It's been so gratifying to see how much that still means to people, and I've been so happy to get to play these records (and tons more) on the terrestrial, as well as the internet, airwaves. |
