Clarence Ewing: The Million Year Trip writesHow to Not Be a Racist

The events happeninng ascross the world that have occured in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd have been, to completey undersell it, extraordinary. The latest chaper in the stuggle for equality has shook up the world and brought together people from all races.

However, some people are wondering what else they could do to further the cause in additon to marching and standing shoulder to shoulder with their Black brothers and sisters.

It is the opinion of this author that learning and understaning is a great place to start, not just of the emotional states of individuals, but the natiure and history of the country we live in, and the ways society makes oppression possible.

Below is a brief list of books and other media resouces to help in that journey. If you have a suggestion for other resources, list them below in the comments or send us an email and we'll add it.

Beatnik writesThe Songs That Get You Through: “Recording 15” by Shannon Lay

These are obviously strange times we are living in, so we asked some of our CHIRP volunteers to tell us about a particular song they like to listen to when things are tough. We're calling it, "The Songs That Get You Through."

Tuesday afternoon DJ and CHIRP review writer Danielle Sines writes:

I’ve been digging through my records (alphabetically, even) - but I had to listen to this record early to help soothe my soul during this unprecedented time. With soft folk leanings, Shannon Lay’s "Recording 15" is a beautiful song to listen to while you unwind.
