DJ Mandrew Fridays, 9AM
DJ Mandrew has been involved with community radio in various capacities since 1997, and has consistently struggled to find a middle musical ground between mid-late 1990’s emo, 1980’s hardcore and indie, 1970’s classic/psychedelic rock (including the Christian variety), modal music from around the world, and contemporary improv and noise. A functional amateur chef, he also enjoys throwing dinner parties for friends, colleagues, and students — you seriously need to try his roasted butternut squash risotto, mango salsa, or the famous vegetable curry he learned at the feet of his South Asian forbears. When he’s not volunteering or playing music for CHIRP, DJ Mandrew can be found collecting records, playing Javanese gamelan, learning and volunteering at the Old Town School of Folk Music, pursuing independent study in craft beer and homebrewing, or teaching world music and punk rock to unsuspecting undergraduates in Chicago. In the meantime, stalk him at will at CHIRP Radio, on Fridays between the hours of 9am and noon.
