The cynics would immediately use Nikka Costa's frequent use of her butt as a selling point as reason to immediately write of her solo self-produced domestic debut as trivial, but as they usually are, the cynics are wrong. This record tries and succeeds to immediately stump all the obvious false steretypes applied to most female singer/songwriters. Summoning up the muse of FIONA APPLE and a little of MACY GRAY, Nikka Costa floats between summery grooves, pop confection, childlike innocence and sexed-up, slow jam grooves. With a voice that is filled with passion over perfection, she makes space as it's laid out rather than just hurredly laid over timed samples. Recommended!!!!!
