Classic, out of print BURNING WITCH material finally sees the light of day in a comprehensive package from who else? Southern Lord. Southern Lord guy STEPHEN O'MALLEY was in BURNING WITCH, so I guess that makes sense. Anyway, in case you're a doom fan and you HAVEN'T heard this band - it's slow, heavy, intense, & all of those other words that are tossed about when a band is loud and low. BURNING WITCH pre-dates bands like SUNN O))), KHANATE, GOATSNAKE, & others, basically the roots of the Southern Lord tree. This double-disc collection not only has the "Towers" LP & "Rift Canyon Dreams," but a downloadable 2-song demo and 4-song live set. Those six songs are over an hour of music, though . . . so don't think that six songs is nothing! For fans of all things heavy, dense, and super evil. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

DANZIG's 7th album and a chugging heavy one at that. Produced by Glenn himself, this album proves that he is more than up on the current trends in metal. Less like his dark Elvis crooning with a more modern barking vocal style. Returning to playing guitars like early SAMHAIN and a few interludes reminiscent of "Black aria".

Excellent acid-folk album from 1973...different from his debut with all the right wistful touches. Melancholy & beautiful & recommended!

The Canadian collective known as GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR is back once again in full-force with "Luciferian Towers" The album opens with a somewhat dissonant piece that sounds like Glenn Branca using cellos & violins instead of guitars. The next track has a pretty straight-ahead melody to it, sort of like a Crazy Horse jam if they had 5 other people backing them up. The rest of the album is just as varied with bits that sound like Morricone mixed with EARTH, hints of Steve Reich & more. Another amazing album from these Reckless favorites.
