This, surprisingly, is the solo debut of BLUR & GORILLAZ front man DAMON ALBARN. ALBARN has been a bit of a musical changeling, moving from the Brit-Pop explosion of the early 90s to the Hip Hop infused music he made with his animated cohort. This time, he's brought an interesting, mature sense of growth to this beautiful music.

In the late 80's & early 90's, SUB POP records had a "sound." They kind of lost it there for awhile in the mid 90's, but they're getting it back. Gone are the NIRVANA'S, GREEN RIVERS & SOUNDGARDENS; now we have THE SHINS, THE ROGUE WAVES & most recently BAND OF HORSES. We're not suggesting that B.O.H. is a sound alike band, but there is a lot of similarities to THE SHINS & ROGUE WAVE especially the singing. Vocalist Ben Bridwell is cleary influenced by SHINS' vocalist James Mercer, but there's some BRIAN WILSON (an influence on Mercer I'm sure) & some DOUG MARTSCH too. This release fits in really well with the last few years of SUB POP releases so if you're into that stuff you're going to love this.

ATTENTION BEACH SLANG FANS!! QUIET SLANG is a side project for BEACH SLANG front man James Alex. The songs definitely sound like his but instead of rowdy punk tunes, the QUIET SLANG song are built around piano & cello arrangements.

Griselda's knife-man is always ready to kill a beat. Benny has an uncomplicated flow & style that's never out of place. That's not to say he's not a great lyricist, that's to say that sometimes the gymnastics aren't the draw. See, what Benny does is put together rhymes, flows, & beats for a complete experience, you can vibe to it, but the drums knock hard enough to get people on the dance floor. You can put it on at the party, but your writer-ly friends can rock wtih the penmanship. It's a one-stop shop for any fan of good Hip Hop music.

This first record from Chicago rock quartet BNNY, who are led by singer Jess Viscius, is an album shrouded in grief following the death of Viscius' partner, the talented TREY GRUBER, in 2017. "Everything" contains material written both before and after 2017, with a gauzy, bedroom haze that seems to recall early ANGEL OLSEN and her scene compatriots DEHD serving to tell a story of love and loss.
