Artist Interviews Ryley Walker

Katie Owens inhabited a corner of Schubas Tavern's basement for a pre-show interview with Ryley Walker. Ryley discussed the locales that make him most at ease, his distaste for downtime, learning 'punk rock ethic' from a veteran local musician and solicited his fans to contact him so he can play your house shows.

Primrose Green released March 31 on Dead Oceans. Ryley is currently on tour but will back to Chicago on July 17 for the 2015 Pitchfork Music Fest in Union Park.

Artist Interviews The Funs

Arty, fuzzy and punkish - The Funs, Philip Lesicko and Jessee Rose Crane, visit CHIRP's studio to chat with DJ Julie Mueller. Jessee muses about her life peaking after touring with The Breeders last year, they discussed how naivety is responsible for the artist's residence they're building in the funeral home formerly owned by Philip's grandparents, and detailed why it was important to move downstate to continue to create art.

You can expect My Survival (a double LP) from The Funs this fall, out on Manic Static. The Funs play the Empty Bottle on Saturday, April 11th.

Artist Interviews Disappears

Just back from a European tour, Brian Case of Disappears sat down with CHIRP’s Amanda Roscoe Mayo to discuss their latest release Irreal out on Kranky. These noteworthy Chicago musicians never seem to sleep, putting out five records and one EP in six years. Besides working on the evolution of their signature Krautrock, Post-Rock, and “other” sound; Case discusses what it was like to cover David Bowie at the MCA, audiences in Europe, and the choice of album art for Irreal.

Disappears start the second leg of their tour this Friday, February 20, with a record release show at Garfield Park Conservatory.

JR Robinson aka Wrekmeister Harmonies sat down with Katie Owens at the Logan Theater to broadly discuss themes examined within his work. In his latest release, JR explored the transformation from lightness to dark, specifically focusing on Truman Capote's interview with Bobby Beausoleil. JR also provided details on his next release which delves into the life and music of 15th century composer, Carlo Gesualdo.

Artist Interviews Fort Frances

CHIRP Radio's Katie Owens met up with P. Michael, Travis and Rebecca of Chicago band ONO at The Ribcage for an exclusive pre-show interview. Artist Interviews The Symposium
