Volunteer: Stories of Philanthropy Banner

CHIRP Radio is partnering with the Chicago Community Trust to produce a special series on volunteerism in the Chicago region. It's part of the Trust's centennial program, Stories of Philanthropy. You’ll hear stories about people who donate their time and talent to make a real difference in our community.

Volunteer: Stories of Philanthropy Gen Z is On It!

Stereotypes about Generation Z are just that: stereotypes. Yeah, they may always have that mobile device nearby, but they're about more than just screen time. They're out in the real world, engaging with their community and volunteering to work on projects that make a positive impact.

In this episode of our series on volunteerism, reporter Christopher Johnson looks at pro bono legal aid in the Chicago region.

Volunteer: Stories of Philanthropy The Urban Art Retreat

On this edition of our series on volunteerism, reporter Christoper Johnson takes us on a day trip to the Urban Art Retreat in North Lawndale. It's a community center, art space, and refuge for women who've suffered abuse. Dianna Long is this volunteer-run organization's director. She guides art programs for kids in the neighborhood, programs she wishes she'd had access to during her own traumatic childhood. Long says the kids "need to know we care about them, and if they really need us, there's a place to go."
