CHIRP Radio Development Director (part-time)

CHIRP Radio is seeking a highly motivated, self-directed fundraising professional with excellent writing and data management skills to handle the following responsibilities:

• Fundraising campaign management: The director will manage three annual fundraising campaigns from planning through fulfillment, creating messaging and materials, with a goal of growing and strengthening the station’s individual giving and sustainer programs.
• Donor data management: The director will utilize the station’s CRM (Neon) to analyze and segment donor records for more effective communication, keep records updated, and manage gift processing.
• Donor cultivation and corporate gifts: The director will research and target appropriate donors for specific messaging, with an eye toward moving regular donors to sustainers and sustainers to major donors. He or she will develop “giving circles” and other efforts to encourage major gifts, work to solicit matching gifts and manage other corporate giving opportunities, and coordinate with the CHIRP Board of Directors to develop and support their fundraising plans and strategy.
• Grant prospecting/grant writing: The director will seek out new grants and work to develop relationships with program officers at local foundations. In coordination with the General Manager, he or she will write grant applications and renewals and develop effective materials that can be reused from application to application.

In addition to these responsibilities, the development director will be expected to serve as a leader within the organization, working with volunteers, attending meetings and events, and providing general support as appropriate. Training will be provided on station policies and equpment so that the director can serve in a supervisory position in the absence of the general manager.

This job will begin as a three-month contract position, and will evolve upon a successful review into a salaried 20 hour per week position that includes two weeks (40 total hours) of paid vacation. The CHIRP development director may frequently work remotely and the schedule generally is flexible, although some daytime availability is required. Candidates must be located in the Chicago area, as some duties do require on-site work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and at least two years experience working in a non-profit fundraising environment
• Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base including donor prospecting and cultivation (individual and corporate) and grant research and application cycles
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including a demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively and to make effective public presentations
• Proficient in Google Docs, Microsoft Word and Excel, and meaningful experience using donor database systems (our CRM is Neon)
• Ability to establish clear objectives, monitor progress, and achieve fundraising goals with a strong adherence to deadlines
• Ability to collaborate with and motivate an array of internal staff, board members, and volunteers
• Self-starter with high degree of initiative, enthusiasm, and ability to work independently; ability to effectively manage time and prioritize projects
• Willingness to bring new ideas to the table, be open to growth and experimentation, and not be bound by existing structures
• Ability to be a passionate and effective advocate for CHIRP, its mission and vision
