CHIRP is thrilled to welcome Anjimile to Schubas on Tuesday, December 12th!

Based in Boston, enigmatic singer/songwriter Anjimile occupies a unique niche where folk, bedroom pop, and indie rock merge with African influences and strong LGBTQ themes. After building up his profile with several highly regarded independent releases during the latter half of the 2010s, he signed with Father/Daughter Records for 2020's Giver Taker.

Anjimile's life changed when a rehab stint in Florida helped him get sober. During this reflective time, he also came to understand that he was transgender and began the transition process. Creatively, he began to thrive and his major life changes played out over releases like 2018's Colors EP and 2019's Maker Mixtape.

His first full-length album, Giver Taker, is a lush and exploratory meditation that funneled his many musical facets into a unique whole.

CHIRP is happy to welcomes Hollyy to Lincoln Hall on Friday, December 15th for their third annual Hollyy-days show!

Lauded as “the future of retro rock” (CLASH Mag), Chicago-based Hollyy masterfully imparts a sound both grounded in youth and transcendent of it. Since the band’s inception in March 2020, this group of self-proclaimed “garage-soul boys” has released a collection of breezy singles as well as their debut EP, Miss the Feeling.

Flaunting a signature combination of stirring vocals, jazzy instrumentals, and indie rock stylings, its no surprise that Hollyy has been likened “to such modern soul powerhouses like St. Paul and the Broken Bones” (Atwood Magazine).

Hollyy features the talents of Tanner Bednar (vocals), Brandon Couture (guitar), Peter Giere (keyboard), Rafe Soto (drums), and Dominic Zeier (bass). And as American Songwriter puts it, “even the sharpest nose won’t find anything manufactured about their talent. They’re the real deal.”

CHIRP Radio 107.1FM is excited to welcome Chicago's own Half Gringa to Schubas on Wednesday, January 10th!

Emerging from Chicago’s flourishing indie music scene, Half Gringa creates music informed by contemporary indie-rock and Latin American and midwestern folk. “When you grew up in the Midwest really into alternative rock, but heard a lot of country music in the supermarket,” offers Isabel Olive, the songwriter and multi-instrumentalist at the core of Half Gringa, when asked to place her music in a specific genre. “Or when your mom loved Bruce Springsteen and Maná and sometimes your brain starts playing them at the same time.” The name Half Gringa is both a tribute to and study of her legacy, stemming from a childhood term of endearment as “la Gringa” in her Venezuelan family and her bicultural experience growing up in the United States. Olive's work seeks to narrate her tireless pursuit as a pupil of both her origins and her experiences.

On Saturday, January 20th, CHIRP Radio 107.1FM welcomes Chicago's own DRAMA to the Salt Shed!

Chicago-based duo of Na’el Shehade and Via Rosa conjure up an alluring brew of R&B and dance music. Both members carry considerable musical backgrounds individually as well contrasting origins. Born in Austin and eventually raised in California, Via’s parents were hippies that played in a reggae band. At 14 she began making music on her own. She eventually moved to Chicago in 2010 and released her debut the DeathViaLove EP on Soundcloud in 2014. Chicago-born Na’el came from a conservative immigrant family. He started DJ’ing parties before he even reached his teenage years. He began making music at the age of 13 and started producing and engineering professionally in college. He went on to contribute to Chance the Rapper's Acid Rap, along with engineering for Kanye West's remix of Chief Keef's colossal "Don't Like." The duo eventually came to meet through their mutual friend Jean Deaux. They decided to go into the studio and collaborate on music with no rules. Just two musicians allowing each other to be free to express themselves. The stark differences in their backgrounds lent to them creating something truly unique and engaging. Soon after DRAMA was born. They self-released their debut EP Gallows in 2016 followed by Lies After Love in 2018 and their latest single “Dead and Gone” in 2019. They've toured extensively and have remained independent which has given them the freedom to continue to push musical boundaries.

CHIRP is thrilled to welcome UK stoner metal band PIGSx7 to Lincoln Hall on Thursday, February 22nd!

PIGSx7 combine acid rock, psych-metal, and doom and stoner influences into a thick sludge of riffs and menacing bellows. Suggesting a meeting of the minds between Black Sabbath and Hawkwind under the influence of especially nasty hallucinogens, The band generates a burly, hard-hitting sound that makes room for sonic experimentation and gargantuan guitar riffs, though the overwhelming heaviness of their sound is what rules the day.

On their debut album, 2017's Feed the Rats, the group built their music around lengthy performances (two of the set's three tracks run over 15 minutes). By the time they cut 2020's Viscerals and 2023's Land of Sleeper, the songs were more compact, but the aggressive stomp of the band was still as brutal as fans could wish.

On Sunday, March 3rd, CHIRP is excited to welcome singer-songwriter Katy Kirby to Lincoln Hall!

Let’s face it: There’s no such thing as “real life”. There is only experience and the negotiations we undertake in order to share it with other people. On her second album Blue Raspberry, the New York-based songwriter Katy Kirby dives headlong into the artifice of intimacy: the glitter smeared across eyelid creases, the smiles switched on with an electric buzz, the synthetic rose scent all over someone who’s made herself smell nice just for you. An exegesis of Kirby’s first queer relationship, Blue Raspberry traces the crescendo and collapse of new love, savoring each gleaming shard of rock candy and broken glass along the way.

Blue Raspberry follows Kirby’s acclaimed debut album Cool Dry Place, which was also recorded in Nashville and released in February of 2021.

CHIRP is happy to welcome San Fermin to Lincoln Hall on Wednesday, March 27th!

San Fermin is the brainchild of Brooklyn's Ellis Ludwig-Leone, an artist with a broad musical background who pursued musical studies at Yale and sharpened his teeth working with avant-garde classical composer Nico Muhly (Björk, Grizzly Bear, Antony & the Johnsons). Emerging in 2013 with their stylistically diverse eponymous debut, the collective's sound has evolved over the years with electronic pop and experimental rock adding new colors to their distinctive modern chamber pop.

Their new album, Arms, comes out on February 16, 2024.
