DJ Bios
Karin Fjellman Wednesdays, 6PM
Resident girl-from-the-north-country Karin Fjellman has been involved in independent radio since her first year of college, and her love affair has since only gotten worse. Like most CHIRP DJs, her playlists showcase an amalgam of eras and genres, and she’s always on the prowl for sounds that have yet to grace her headphones. (It’s taken twenty-some years to discover a love for prog-rock and Led Zeppelin, for chrissakes.) With Shangri-Las lyrics embedded into her brain long before she learned how to operate her coveted childhood cassette player, it comes as no surprise to hear a fair sample of girl group pop in her weekly sets. In her spare time, Karin practices wizardry in her kitchen, sings in a punk rock choir, reads sappy comic books, and geeks out about her new sewing machine. She currently resides in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood.
