SLOWDIVE
EVERYTHING IS ALIVE
Dead Oceans
"Everything Is Alive" is the sophomore album from SLOWDIVE's incredibly successful 2nd phase. Their 2017 comeback was more present & less "shoegazey" than their original albums & this one follows in those footsteps though they've added more synth textures & acoustic guitars this time around. Neil Halstead & Rachel Goswell share vocal duties almost equally & as always they compliment each other perfectly. Overall we'd say this album is more quiet & dreamy than the last one & there's even a MOGWAI esque instrumental boldly placed 2nd in the album sequence. SLOWDIVE is an all-time Reckless fave so we're quiet excited about this one. RECOMMENDED!

YES! The mighty SLOWDIVE is back in action with a brand new studio long player! The self titled SLOWDIVE is their first recording since 1995's experimental but brilliant PYGMALION, and we are so very glad to have them back. After My Bloody Valentine ended their hiatus in 2007, it seems they opened the floodgates for their noise rock/dream pop contemporaries to reunite, as evidenced by tours from Swervedriver, Lush, Ride, Jesus & Mary Chain, and of course, Slowdive. We are happy to say that they picked up right where they left off- this time with a bit more urgency. Their trademark wash of breathy vocals amongst a sea of verbed out guitar now sits among faster tempos & more active arrangements. Less melancholic & more joyous than their past output, Slowdive is back and (hopefully) here to stay. Now if only we could get a Cocteau Twins reunion!

PYGMALION (IMP, 180GRM REISSUE)
Music on Vinyl
AAAHHHHH....Words cannot express how excited we are for a proper reissue of SLOWDIVE's third & final (not to mention their most divisive) album, "Pygmalion." After "Souvlaki", fan expectations were at "Phantom Menace" levels & we expect some fans were just as disappointed in the album as Star Wars geeks were in Lucas' legendary implosion. In retrospect, the reaction at the time makes a lot sense as the record was a rapid departure from their more structured songs. "Pygmalion" is M-I-N-I-M-A-L, with many of the songs structured around one idea or long instrumental passages. The shoegaze elements that they were best known for up to this album including walls of guitar noise, massive feedback etc... are basically gone, instead the songs are broken down to their most basic elements with the main effect only being simple delay on the vocals to create a more rhythmic quality. This is an intimate record, one that reminds us of the finest moments of TALK TALK, LOW & COCTEAU TWINS. Time has been kind to Neil Halstead & Rachel Goswell's incredible work & Music on Vinyl has done a fantastic job with the reissue.
