"Beyondless" is the 4th album from the Copenhagen based band ICEAGE. Led by Elias Bender Ronnenfelt, the band has definitely leveled-up on this one. Ronnenfelt's side project MARCHING CHURCH seems to have influenced the sound of this record quite a bit, with this album veering away from the punky sound they were known for towards more of a early BAD SEEDS sound which MARCHING CHURCH is also known for. A highlight is definitely the song "Pain Killer" which features Sky Ferreira on back-up vocals & it sounds like it could fit perfectly in a BAD SEEDS set. That punk energy isn't lost though, instead the energy is just spread out in different ways. Fans of the band, MARCHING CHURCH, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, P.J. Harvey, PROTOMARTYR etc... will love this. RECOMMENDED.

2011 reissue of this buzz-worthy Copenhagen four piece known as ICEAGE. Aggressive post-punk with an 'in-the-red' recording that makes us imagine these guys tearing it up live. Parts of this remind us of the more aggressive side of GANG OF FOUR, MISSION OF BURMA or even MOVING TARGETS but there's something more aggro going on here. We've seen comparisons to FUCKED UP & NO AGE but in our eyes, these guys are onto something very unique here.

Normally when a punk band signs to a bigger label, it's because they've streamlined their sound for a wider audience. This is not the case with the Danish band ICEAGE. "You're Nothing" is sloppier, louder & more spastic than the band's well-received debut. These guys are pretty young but they obviously have the entire history of punk rock absorbed into their bones. With hints of first wave British punk, MISSION OF BURMA, Homestead era SONIC YOUTH, early HUSKER DU ("Land Speed Record", early singles etc...) all combined in a unique way. That first record was no fluke, these guys are the real deal.
