A nice little split between two Japanese bands that have been friends for over 15 years. 9DW give us to 80's dance/funk inspired tracks that should appeal to you PRINCE & CORNELIUS fans out there. The first BORIS track is a new direction for the band with some electronics & heavily overdubbed & manipulated vocals. The second track is pure BORIS with that trademark wall of guitar sound. It's a pretty, shoegaze inspired track.

Having Dave Grohl or the DIRTY THREE contribute to your album is cool & all but not as cool as having someone like Mahon "Teenie" Hodges or Steve Potts backing you up. C'mon these guys are PROS. They have played with AL GREEN, BOOKER T. & THE MGS & NEIL YOUNG. So, does having a band like this make a good album? I don't think it really matters, Marshall's songs are good enough no matter how they're played. This is a more 'adult' record & I think it will probably command a more mainstream audience. Chan's voice sounds as good as ever too. Maybe in the future, "The Greatest" will be referred to as her Norah Jones phase. We'll see... Limited edition digipak version has a secret hidden track not available on the jewel case version.

This second edition is musically the same as the original version but Matador seems to trying to reach a new audience by repackaging the cd with 4 different photo 'slipcases' featuring Ms. Marshall's pretty mug. Oh yeah, the album is cheaper too. Smart.
