Musically "Fossora" mostly exists in a avant garde realm with songs almost dipping into third stream, 20th century avant garde choral arrangements with some occasional minimal techno beats but the majority of the songs are mostly beatless wonders. This one feels like it demands to be listened to all the way through as it's more of a concept record as opposed to a collection of pop songs. This is the 2nd record from the Danish guitarist Maggie Bjorklund who was thrust into the spotlight recently by her appearance on Jack White's "Lazaretto" album. This album boasts a pretty intense line-up including P.J. Harvey collaborator John Parish, Jim Barr of PORTISHEAD & a guest vocal appearance from Kurt Wagner of LAMBCHOP. Dark, mostly acoustic driven songs with a rather haunting quality. This reminds us of the more mellow Nick Cave solo album, Lee Hazlwood & Nancy Sinatra, Nina Nastasia etc...
