We all know BECK is inventive, creative & generally lovely so much so that critics & his fans find him almost impossible to categorize. with a bonus DVD with a short film for each song. This being a Nigel Godrich collaboration you know it's going to sound divine. Godrich has worked with the likes of RADIOHEAD, PAUL MCCARTNEY & STEPHEN MALKMUS. There are so many genres covered here that the first few listens may seem daunting. There are elements of funk, indie rock, electro & (& what seems to be BECK's most straight forward attempt at) hip-hop. This is a swelling musical adventure. If you are a fan of his albums "Odelay" or "Guero" but were wondering what they might sound like under the meticulous eye of Mr. Godrich then you must get this.

2008 sees Beck teaming with DANGER MOUSE (GNARLS BARKLEY) and fusing the intimate feel of 'Sea Change' with the electronic junk of 'Midnite Vultures' with the droll darkness of 'Odelay' with the sophisticated song structures of 'Guero'. In other words, this is possibly the most successful distillation of Beck's many talents thus far - a succinct statement of purpose that Beck is not fucking around anymore. It's been a good long time since the last BECK LP That's not to say the man's been idle, there have been singles, soundtrack appearances & some other things that have made their way to the public, but this is the first time in a long time that we're getting a complete project, & the wait was worth it With a return from the personnel employed for SEA CHANGE we also get a return to the slower, more deliberate contemplative sounds of that record. MORNING PHASE is pleasant, & full of hope, but there is underneath a bit of sadness, that will make for very good relaxed listening.

Beck followed up his monster hit ODELAY with MUTATIONS, trading in the found-sound, sample-heavy style that him brought him fame & acclaim for more somber singer/songwriter fare in the vein of his early recordings. Production is handled by NIGEL GODRICH hot off OK COMPUTER... HIGHLY REC'D!
