Where do I start? This record is so f*cking amazing for many reasons. Ataxia features RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS guitarist John Frusciante, FUGAZI bassist Joe Lally & BICYCLE THIEF drummer Josh Klinghoffer. Lally provides most of the melody with his dub influenced bass lines & Frusciante proves that his guitar playing abilities excede well beyond the realm of the radio friendly "funk rock" that he is best known for playing solid, simple leads & sparse, "tasty" solos. Frusciante handles the majority of the vocal duties & he handles them well with nice falsetto moments & interesing synth-effected parts. Overall there are a lot of effects & noise on this record, drum parts with synthesized echos, what sounds like an arsenal of vintage guitar effects & a good deal of theremin. Imag- a power trio taking the best ideas from the last few RADIOHEAD records but keeping things rocking. If I had to say this record sounds more like FUGAZI or the 'PEPPERS, I'd have to say FUGAZI but this is a darker & more drugged out sounding record than they could ever hope to make. SO HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BUT NOBODY SEEMS TO BELIEVE ME......SERIOUSLY BUY THIS NOW!!!
