Volunteer: Stories of Philanthropy Volunteer Entertainers Deliver Passion and Connection
Our series reporter Christopher Johnson checks out a variety show at a senior residence in Edgewater. The show’s volunteer organizer is herself a performer, and she uses her connections to recruit other local performers to volunteer. Seniors may seem like a tough crowd, but these performers make a real connection with their audience.
“It’s not about hitting the right notes,” says volunteer performer Matt Griffo. “It’s about connecting with them.” 
Krista Atkinson has been the host of the all-volunteer variety show at Chicago Methodist Senior Services. “It’s such a passion.” 
“I think people are appreciative,” says volunteer performer John Gorlewski. “I like the thought of bringing the music to people.”
