Story Week Story Week Festival: Sci-Fi Fantasy

From March 15-21, the Columbia College Chicago Department of Creative Writing presented its 19th Annual Story Week Festival of Writers. Story Week 2015 offered a schedule jam-packed with readings, conversations with authors, panels, performances, and book signings at venues throughout Chicago—all free and open to the public.

At this event, authors discuss the evolving landscape and popularity of the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre. Authors readings included Jay Bonansinga's reading from the first book of the Woodbury quartet from The Walking Dead series and Audrey Niffenegger's reading from her sequel to The Time Traveler's Wife. The readings are followed by a Q&A and tips for writers.

Arty, fuzzy and punkish - The Funs, Philip Lesicko and Jessee Rose Crane, visit CHIRP's studio to chat with DJ Julie Mueller. Jessee muses about her life peaking after touring with The Breeders last year, they discussed how naivety is responsible for the artist's residence they're building in the funeral home formerly owned by Philip's grandparents, and detailed why it was important to move downstate to continue to create art.

You can expect My Survival (a double LP) from The Funs this fall, out on Manic Static. The Funs play the Empty Bottle on Saturday, April 11th.
