The Saps are The Saps- four musicians writing and performing top notch Pop songs while totally boozed up and inebriated in studio and on stage. With their “play from the floor drunk” mentality, The Saps have always played their shows the way they wanted to. Between starting a shot glass breaking frenzy in Bloomington, IL or pulling down the clubs ceiling in Knoxville, TN, The Saps have lived on to create another album- Easier On The Heart, Tough On The Lip

Pease join us in what will be the final celebration of an alcohol fueled, Saps extravaganza.

Classic Album Sundays is a group album listening experience that builds a community of music lovers and CHIRP is proud to co-sponsor the series in Chicago. Join us during January as we will feature Steely Dan’s “Aja.”

Labeled as a jazz rock band, Steely Dan were able to crossover to mass appeal due to their brilliantly constructed compositions and sophisticated harmonies. The vision for this album was clear: incorporate several leading session musicians that would best suit the style of each song. Known for their unique mixture of jazz pop rock, band leaders Fagen and Becker were true New Yorkers but relocated to the west coast for this recording. Many of the session players utilized were from California and this infused a certain California sound on many of the songs. Thus, for the first time, Aja represented a sonic fusion of east meets west (“Home at Last”) for Steely Dan.

It's officially been 30 years since Jon Auer & Ken Stringfellow, high school buddies from Bellingham WA, recorded and released "Failure," a home recorded, self-released cassette that had the improbable fate of landing the band two commercial radio hits and a record deal w the David Geffen Company, where they became labelmates of Sonic Youth, Nirvana & Teenage Fanclub.

Now with a legacy of eight critically lauded albums (their latest, "Solid States" was released last year), a loyal population of fans around the globe, and a body of work with such classic alternative/indie anthems as "Dream All Day," "Solar Sister," "Coming Right Along" and many more, the band remains active and looking forward to its fourth decade in music.

The Posies' '90s catalogue is set to be re-released in 2018 by Omnivore Records, and there are plans to start working on a new album soon after.

For this show at City Winery, Jon & Ken will perform as they did in their earliest shows -- simply, as a duo, letting the intricate blend of their guitars and voices carry the evening. Expect familiar favorites and deep cuts from their entire catalogue, plus the occasional Big Star cover, without a doubt (Jon & Ken were part of Big Star's reformed lineup from 1993 until Alex Chilton's 2010 death). Not to be missed, this is the Posies in their most authentic environment.

If you ever find yourself in Burton, Texas -- population 359 -- you may hear some strange sounds coming from a particularly remote barn.

The sounds are those of Khruangbin, a psychedelic trio who draw inspiration from the deepest depths of music history: mixing 1960's funk scene in Thailand, 1970's Persian rock music, and 1980's Algerian symphonia with a dash of disco, soul, and balearic music.

Though the band's inspiration comes from all around the world, their roots are distinctly Texan. Ever since their first rehearsals, Khruangbin have recorded at their remote Burton barn, their spiritual home. Which means their stage performance was honed not playing to hipsters in venues, but to cows out to pasture.

After developing a fan base of the barnyard variety, they decided to find out if humans would enjoy their music too. Since then, they've found their audiences just as diverse as the music itself -- selling out headline shows in the US, UK and Europe, supporting acts like Father John Misty and Massive Attack, and late last year, signing on to be Corona's official brand sound.
